How has Beuchat found the design and materials to make such a mask so much appreciated all around the world? The softest and most colourful
Before going very technical in the certification of the Beuchat Maxlux S, we can make a visual and tactile analysis of the mask. Beautifully manufactured with perfect finishes, the Beuchat Maxlux S is a frameless monolens mask. It is the smaller version of the also very famous Beuchat Maxlux, more indicated for Scuba Diving and Snorkeling. With its more compact dimensions, the Maxlux S adapts better also to spearfishing and freediving. Of the bigger sister it maintains the quality and the amazing number of colours, 16!
To the quality, design, and colours, the Beuchat Maxlux S adds amazingly soft silicone, probably the softest on the market, definitely the softest we have tested until today. The great intelligence and know-how by Beuchat has brought to design a mask where the softness of the skirt is extreme in the inferior part, below the nose, and also the nose pocket, giving unbeatable comfort. On the forehead, instead, the silicone is still soft but has more structure. This is key to avoid the chassis and the single lens to press on the forehead or the nose, creating pain and discomfort.
Field of view
It is evident that a frameless monolens mask can have a great field of view, fantastic for spearfishing, but also scuba diving, freediving and snorkeling. With the Maxlux S the central upper narrow part of the monolens, which can normally limit the proximity of the lens to the eyes, is so well designed that actually there is no real restriction. We have “certified” the field of view of the Beuchat Maxlux S with our independent and precise system and the values are quite impressive. The French monolens mask has the record value field of view of 709, beating by far even the Best Choice 2024 by Apneapassion spearfishing mask winner, the C4 Condor, the record breaking mask measured until now, with 625.
The total value must by the way consider that in the upper part of the field of view the Beuchat Maxlux S has practically no limit! In the higher zone between the eyes the continuity of the monolens generates no border to the field of view. The only possible limit is the central lower view, where the nose pocket is present, as the latter is quite wide. Considering though that the central part is in the view area of both eyes, such aspect is limited. This is definitely another key element that makes the Beuchat Maxlux S the choice of many spearos and divers, who can have un unbeatable field of view and an excellent comfort all together.
Internal Volume
The wide monolens of the Beuchat Maxlux S of course has some downsides, one of which is the internal volume, quite high, but finally not eccessive for such a mask. The value certified by Apneapassion is in fact 133cc, significantly higher than the best masks, which are all double lenses, but still acceptable.
Conclusions
Why is the Beuchat Maxlux S such an amazing and loved mask? Because its design and materials make it extremely comfortable, with a record braking field of view, and great colour range. The internal volume is not low, but still acceptable, and for those who don’t give it too much importance, the French mask is an amazing choice.
