The C4 Condor mask has been “certified” in our Super Test with extraordinary values of reduced internal volume and, even more, record breaking field of view, as indicated in our Masks Certification section. Now the former World and Euro-African Champion, Daniel Gospic, member of the Apneapassion International Team, has tested it thoroughly, to verify if the C4 Condor is indeed the new revolution in the spearfishing masks, and still a great choice also for scuba diving, and for freedivers who love to have a great field of view.
Field of view
“As a spearo. I have always loved, and still do, using masks with a great field of view. I normally use mono lens solutions, which are great in such sense.
With the C4 Condor the field of view is incredible, the visibility is unlimited in each direction, a great help during the spearfishing action. Werther you look up, down or sideways, there is no limit given by the C4 Condor. The only minimal area where you can see the mask is actually present, is just very slightly around the bottom of the nose, but this is inevitable.”
Internal Volume
“I care less about the internal volume, as what you lose during equalization in the descent phase, you can gain back in the ascent phase. Still, I could feel during my deep dives beyond – 30 meters that the necessity of equalizing the mask was minimal. Definitely, this is a help during the descent phase.”
Comfort and water seal
“The C4 Condor is probably one of the most comfortable mask, if not the most, as the silicone skirt is amazingly soft. Also, the area of the silicone in touch with the face is extremely wide, as the angle of the surface of the skirt is almost parallel to the profile of the diver. This determines an amazing comfort, almost no signs on the face even after many hours of spearfishing, and an extraordinary sealing effect. In fact, even after three days without me cutting my beard, the C4 Condor has no water leakage at all. Normally, with the other masks, after two days I really need to cut my beard and mustache if I do not want water entering.
The only part I felt could be improved is the rear strap, where the silicone is a little bit too rigid for my taste. I prefer a very elastic strap to be able to position it where and like I want. Additionally, a more elastic strap avoids that the snorkel hitting an obstacle moves the mask.”
Amazing compactness versus field of view
Another aspect that I love about the C4 Condor is that, despite the amazing field of view, it is still a very compact mask. When I enter in small holes in the rocks the mask does not hit objects, as it is compact on the face. I noticed I do not even get the mask to hook sea weeds when moving on the sea floor. This is definitely an additional confirmation the C4 Condor does not have elements extending out of the mask which can easily come to contact with objects underwater.”
Conclusions
The C4 Condor is really astonishing for comfort and field of view. Of course you need to position it well on the face and adjust the rear strap almost with no tension. In fact, the sealing effect is so good that the C4 Condor will have no water entering even with no pull by the strap. Instead, if the mask is tightened too much, it can become a little bit uncomfortable, as the lenses get too close to the eyes and the silicone skirt deforms too much.
