The new Cetma Shark freediving and spearfishing mask has been “certified” by Apnea Passion with the measure of the internal volume and field of view. The results are extremely good and slightly better then the inspiring mask, the mythical Technisub Micromask.

Internal Volume

We know how important it is for deep dives, be them for spearfishing or freediving, to have a reduced internal volume of the mask to reduce waste of air and equalization actions during the descent phase. Apnea Passion is the only international organization able to mesure and “certify” precisely and independently the internal volumes of diving masks. All values measured are easily visible on the specific Masks Certification section of the magazine.

We have measured the internal volume of the Technisub Micromask and it was an excellent 93cc. Cetma Composites, though, told us they expected something even better, and so it is, even if just slightly. In fact, the new Cetma Shark mask has a very reduced internal volume of only 91cc, which positions it 4th in the standings of the best masks we have measured so far, a very good result! This slight reduction of the internal volume depends probably mainly on the side areas of the skirt of the Shark mask being”filled” with silicone instead of being empty. A small improvement compared to one of the best masks of all times.

Field of view

Another key parameter for diving masks, be it diving, freediving, and most of all, spearfishing, is the field of view. Such parameter is measured worldwide only by Apnea Passion in a very precise and repeatable process studied and realized after years of studies and experience on masks by the Apnea Passion technical team.

We have measured the field of view of the Cetma Shark mask, considering all the 8 cardinal axis, as done with all the previous masks, in a perfectly standardized and repeatable process. The mask by the Italian company has given, also on this parameter, good results, once more doing slightly better than the Technisub Micromask. Something, this, we did not expect. In fact, the final value of the field of view of the Cetma Shark mask is 518, against a 508 of the Technisub Micromask.

Even though the skirt of the Cetma Shark mask appears to be more compact and narrower laterally, evidently the design and even the softness of the silicone permits the lenses to come closer to the eyes and improve slightly the field of view.

Finally, the value of 518 positions the Cetma Shark very close to one of the best masks on the market, the Salvimar Noah, which has been measured equal to 529.
