The freediving world is growing internationally, and in particular in pool indoor apnea. This has generated the need for always better equipment, and an accessory which is definitely important is the neck weight. C4 Carbon is definitely a company that has been investing a lot to propose a full and professional line of freediving equipment. We have already presented the C4 D&D neck weight, launched after the C4 Dyno. The latter has been awarded with the Best Choice 2024, but now the D&D does better, in the sense that is it more adaptable to both DYN and CWT. So it is the C4 D&D to be awarded Best Choice 2025 by Apnea Passion. Let’s see why.

Hydrodynamic with a great fit

The C4 D&D neck weight is definitely hydrodynamic, definitely more than famous and nice looking solutions such as the Lobster Squid. This is a key element both in DYN and CWT where all the energy that can be saved is crucial.

But even more, it is the adjustment system od the D&D which is a winner. The different size elements that are consequently inserted in the collar, be them heavy with lead, or light and empty, have a design which adapts the the neck and shoulders of the freediver extremely well. But what is additionally clever, is the possibility to rotate such elements with the wider ones, positioned at the two extremes of the collar, being able to somehow wrap the neck of the diver and create a more stable fit.

Simple and fast weight adjustment

The C4 D&D neck weight has one great advantage: the adjustment of the weight of the collar is extremely fast and easy. It can, in fact, be done without any tool, just with the hands. The two steel threaded caps on the sides of the collar can be untightened and tightened with the fingers. The single elements of the collar can then be pulled out and changed easily to adjust the final weight of the collar. This will permit you to change the weight from 1030 to 1630 grams. We would have preferred a final top weight of 2 Kgs for the only collar, and this can be improved. Still, 1630 is a good value.

But you can go higher with the weight using the tail of the D&D. This will permit you to add as many elements as you want and increase the total weight as much as you want. Of course the setting with the tail of the D&D mounted is intended for DYN and not for CWT, where the tail could flip upside down during the descent. To act and adjust the weights of the tail you will need a flat screwdriver, so the process is a little more complex, but still fast and easy.

Excellent price

The C4 D&D has a price on the web at the moment which is only 129€ for the collar, so maximum 1630 grams. The 3 Kg version is 189€ and the 4 Kgs 209€. If we consider that the famous Lobster Squid, with more limits on the hydrodynamic and fitting compared to the D&D, costs 179€ in the 1.6 Kgs version, you see there are 50€ difference for a similar weight system, that is almost 40% more than the D&D!
