The C4 Dyno neck weight wins the Best Choice 2024 in its category, after having hit the market hard, a with our World Première already in March this year, and our X-Rays article in April. Immediately, the freediving world of the Dyn apnea reacted with amazing interest for a product which has taken many of elements from the most famous Lobster neck weight, but at a lower and very competitive price. The C4 Dyno can be found today on the web at 170€ and free shipping for the 4 Kg version, while the equivalent of the Lobster costs 219 €. For such reason the C4 Dyno also wins the Best Value for money prize 2024. Among the three finalists is also the very interesting Chabaud Skorpio.
3 great solutions with some differences
All three neck weights are interesting, quality and very useful products. So let’s analyze the main differences.
The Best Choice 2024 by Apneapassion and Best Value 2024 winner, the new C4 Dyno, is a dismountable neck weight which permits to set the total Kgs from 2.5 to 4.0 in the standard solution. The weight variation is adjusted with elements of 520, 390, 290 and 230 grams. An additional kit of 4 elements of 290 grams each can be bought separately. All the weight elements of the C4 Dyno are mounted and dismounted utilizing screws. Such quality with a price of 170€ makes the C4 Dyno deserve the Best Value 2024 by Apneapassion prize.
The Lobster neck weight is, to be very sincere, the first and original adjustable neck weight. The system consists of a base of 2.5 kg and additional 5 segments (500, 400, 300, 200, 100 g), so that you can adapt the collar weight to your needs. The total weight of the Full Set Lobster 2 – Medium is 4.0 kg. The Lobster costs definitely more (219€) than the C4 Dyno (170€), but is more refined, and the single weight elements can be mounted and dismounted very quickly using fast release clips. Additionally, the Lobster is more hydrodynamic than the C4 Dyno, but honestly the final effect is probably minimal .
The Skorpio neck weight by Chabaud is another very very interesting solution which definitely deserves to be among the finalists of the Best Choice 2024 by Apneapassion in its category. More artisanal and less refined than the C4 Dyno and the Lobster, the Skorpio is and adjustable neck weight where the single weights are added or taken off using a Velcro system. This in time can of course wear out, but it is also true that for a freediver the adjustment of the weights should not be very frequent once set. The very thin design of the weights help to keep them well close to the back and be more stable, and also more hydrodynamic. At a base price of 118 € for the 3 Kg version, and +6€ every 250 grams additional weight, the Skorpio is very competitive price wise (142 € for the 4 Kg version).
