What an amazing mask the Cressi Superocchio has been since its birth in the 80s. Extremely compact, with an extremely reduced internal volume, this mask was initially made in natural rubber, and successively in silicone, more resistant to sun and seawater.
Loved and chosen by many Champions still today
Since its birth the Cressi Superocchio has been bought and used by an enormous number of divers, be them spearos, freedivers or scuba divers. What is amazing is that today many spearos still use it and cannot do without it. Even more astonishing, is that great champions like the 2021 World Spearfishing Champion, Giacomo De Mola, also 3° at the 2023 World Spearfishing Championship in Spain, use the Cressi Superocchio.
Also our Roberto Poggioli, still uses and prefers the Cressi Superocchio to any other spearfishing mask. Roberto told us “It is the only mask, and this applies to many athletes that compete with me, that fits perfectly to the face. It is great in deep water and in shallow, it does not press in any area on the face, so it is perfectly comfortable. The internal volume is great, as it is really low“.
We have also made a survey on our Facebook and Instagram pages and the most requested mask to be “certified” by Apneapassion for the Internal Volume and Field of View has been clearly the Cressi Superocchio.
The results of our measures were quite expected, but still, a measure has really impressed us, the internal volume.
Internal volume of the Cressi Superocchio
Very compact, and much appreciated, as already said, by deep divers like Giacomo De Mola, indeed we expected the Cressi Superocchio to have a very low internal volume, but not as low as 88 cc. This value makes the Cressi Superocchio the third best among the masks we have measured overall, behind the Mares X-Free (77cc) and the C4 Falcon (84cc). Both these masks are frameless, while the Cressi Superocchio is with frame and completely dismountable. What a result for a mask thought an designed more than 30 years ago! By the way, the masks with frame tend to have much fewer problems with fogging thanks to the warm silicone of the facial not being in contact with the lenses during the production process, as instead is for the frameless masks. Definitely, the first reason for the great success of a mask that has become a Legend has been identified.
Field of view of the Cressi Superocchio
Some spearos are not so interested in the Internal volume, some others accept s reduced field of view. This is the case for those utilizing the Cressi Superocchio. The field of view is evidently not the strong point of this mask, as perceivable simply by wearing it. The measurements we have taken in the “certification” process have been clear. The Cressi Superocchio has a total value of the field of view of 440, significantly lower than the best in class, the C4 Condor, and also behind the best masks we have measured, which are all frameless. This is a great advantage, as such technology permits to bring the lenses closer to the eyes and improve significantly the field of view.
