We have presented on our X-Rays the first carbon fiber fins by Cetma Composites, the Edge. Constantly renovated and renewed, the Edge are today a point of reference for spearos, but the Super Soft and Soft versions are also excellent for deep freedivers. The Cetma Mantra, thought for spearfishing, are also good for indoor apnea thanks to the DRS (Dynamic Resonance System). The Cetma Edge are, instead, so reactive that they are great mainly for deep dives. The amazing thing about the Edge is that they have been designed to adapt both to narrow kicks, with the main action of the tip of the blade, but also wider ones where all the length of the blade is activated. Carlo Forni has tried the Cetma Edge during his spearfishing sessions down to 20-25 meters. Let’s see what he has experienced.
Comfortable, high quality, with a little weight

The comfort and ease in putting on the Cetma S-Wing foot pockets is extraordinary and the perceived quality excellent. This applies to the foot pockets, but also and especially to the blades. The perceived quality of the carbon fiber is unbeatable, and so are details like the differentiated height of the water rails. Even though not key, the fins, mostly due to the strong structure of the foot pockets, feel a little heavy out of the water.
Unbeatable reactivity
I have tested the Soft blade of the Cetma Edge carbon fiber fins. Whether you use them with a narrow kick or a wider ones, express unbeatable thrust. This I have never found in other carbon fiber fins and it is a real plus, as there Edge adapt to almost any kind of finning technique. The reactivity of the blade in every condition is excellent and this permits, during the spearfishing action, great accelerations and change of direction.

As expected, since it is a key element underlined by Cetma Composites, the reactivity of the blades, together with the strong structure of the S-Wing foot pockets, determine an immediate acceleration from the bottom, even at -25 meters in constant weight. Amazing!
Not for long surface transfers
The reactivity and some weight of the Cetma Edge make them perfect for deep dives, and even fast changes of direction during the action, but their best condition are not surface transfers. In this case, the toughness and reactivity of the blades do not go along too well with the surface transfers.
Conclusions
The reactivity and thrust expressed by the Cetma Edge in the Soft version explains perfectly why the have been, and are still today, one of the major successes of the Italian company. The deep dives are always done with great confidence as the Edge are immediate in the thrust and powerful at any time. Even though they work fine in all conditions, for shallow water and long surface transfers there are in the Cetma Composites line of fins definitely more adequate models.
