Lidija Vukic, the bronze medalist in the two latest main international competitions, the World Championship in Brazil and the Euro-African Championship in Türkiye, is definitely one of the favourites for the title in Montenegro, where she will be competing on home waters. Our Director, Carlo Forni, has interviewd her on her expectations and feelings.

Carlo Forni: What do spearfishing competitions mean to you, and what is it like to compete in your home country? Do you feel extra pressure?
Lidija Vukic: Competitions are a great opportunity to meet the best spearfishers, gain new experience, dive in different areas and discover and catch new fish species. This competition is in my country, so I am familiar with all the species, but I have never dived in this particular area of Montenegro. Personally, I don’t feel any pressure because spearfishing is my hobby, but of course I will give my best, as always.

CF: With bronze medals at both the last Euro-African Championship in Türkiye and the World Championship in Brazil, you have shown remarkable consistency. What are your goals for this Euro-African Championship on home waters?
Lidija Vukic: I am proud to represent my country once again in such a competitive event, and simply taking part is already a great achievement. My goal is to give my best on both competition days. If I do that, I will be satisfied.

CF: Which female athletes do you think will be your main rivals for the title?
Lidija Vukic: When I compete, I focus on my own performance and try to do the best I can. I don’t think about the other competitors or worry about who is taking part. But if I achieve a good placing at the end of the weigh-in, of course that makes me happy. It is difficult to compare yourself with others: some athletes have excellent breath-hold abilities, some have great technique, and others have luck on their side. It will be a very interesting competition, and I can’t wait to be part of it.
