We have already presented most of the spearguns line by the Portuguese Company, Pescador Sub. We quickly went through the Atlantic, Pacific, Ghost and Hammer spearguns. Let’s now go deeper in analyzing the Pacific, one of the key spearguns of the Pescador line.

At a first glance

We have taken as example the Pescador Pacific 82 in the gold and yellow colours. These appear nicely matched, where the barrel il gold and the reel, the handle, the butt and even the monofilament are yellow. A nice way to improve the looks of this speargun. Available colours are also blu, green, black, purple and red, so those spearos more attent to camouflage are also satisfied. In our gold version the double elastic bands are white, but in the versions such as red, clack, blue green and purple, the bands colur matches the one of the barrel, and so does the muzzle.

Barrel

The barrel is a classic 28 mm diameter solution, and has as upgrade a nicely integrated shaft guide all along. The material, aeronautical aluminium, is well anodized, and so is the name of the speargun: Pescador Pacific 82. The real length of the barrel is 82 cm, while the total length of the speargun from the release mechanism to the center of the front elastic band is 98 cm.

Release mechanism and chest support

Another high end solution is the 100% stainless steel release mechanism, including the trigger and the lateral line release lever. Waiting to test it at sea very soon. All appears well designed, even though some other release mechanisms on the market might appear more well-finished. But this is the key to Pescador spearguns, finishings are not the best in the world, but what counts is the value for money aspect and the best possible performance.

The lateral line release lever, for example is quite thin, also helping to keep the weight of the speargun down, but stil the design of such element is long enough to ensure the monofilament does not come off. The speargun butt is one piece with the release mechanism and has a steel structure, while the part laying on the chest is in glass loaded nylon, with a wide rest area and a useful rubber layes with rough surface to avoid slipping.

Handle

The handle is well designed, symmetrical and anatomical. The hand is well positioned to align the index finger nicely with the shaft. On the market there might be more extreme solutions, where the hand is even higher and more aligned, but this often causes difficulties to some spearos which feel to much pressure and finally pain on the area between the thumb and the index finger. So, the solution by Pescador is a good design to be always on the safe side and adapt to all hands. The grip has two rough lateral elements for best anti-slip effect.

Muzzle

One of the best elements by Pescador is definitely the muzzle. The double circular open solution has a very good design which perfectly positions the two circular bands parallel to the shaft. This improves the efficiency of the shot, both in power and precision. The passages for the line are well dimensioned and make it easy to reload the speargun after every shot. In the inferior part of the muzzle a thick and resistant steel axle is positioned for the passage of the line.

The Pescador Sub Pacific can be easily set with also a Pescador closed muzzle solution.

Muzzle to barrel to handle connection

The important connection between the muzzle and the barrel and the handle and the barrel, is made with the high end solution of double O-rings. This technical design permits to have the most quantity of air in the barrel, improving floatability compared to the solution with plugs. A steel screw is used to ensure the stability of the connection.

Bands

Two circular 16 mm diameter Primeline Reactive bands are sue on the Pescador Pacific 82. Such bands, as we know, are a high quality solution that pescador should underline, but the choice not to put the Primeline logo on the bands is determined by avoiding additional costs for a logo that would soon be deleted after a few spearfishing sessions.

Shaft

The shaft is a high quality 6.5 m diameter with 3 shark fins solution made by Pescador. The shaft has an upper single barb, and the frontal shark fin has a hole for the passage of the line if needed. The tip has a circular section.

Reel

The reel of the Pescador Pacific 82 is a simple and economical glass loaded Nylon solution, and can be in the 30 m or 50 m version. Even though this reel has not well finished as other products on the market, as it is clearly manufactured with moulds, is is light and resistant.

Conclusions

The Pescador Pacific 82 is a very complete speargun, with high end solutions, with a very light structure and components, which make it very easily manoeuvrable in the water. The various elements such as the muzzle, the release mechanism and the reel, do not have the absolute top finishings, but this has nothing to do with performance, where the Pacific 82 has all the elements to be a great performer. Soon the Test of the Champion in the water.
