Pescador Sub is a Portuguese company led by Nuno Ponte. From spearguns, to wetsuits, to shafts and many accessories, Pescador Sub offers an amazing product line for spearfishing. Let’s start from the key product, the spearguns range.

Why buy Pescador spearguns
Pescador Sub is definitely a great value for money brand when it comes to spearguns. This is because the design of its spearguns range, which we will have an overview on in a moment, focuses on the elements which really count. You might not have a perfectly polished muzzle or steel parts of the release mechanism, but definitely you will have quality where you need it.
100% stainless steel release mechanism

Apart from the very basic model of speargun, actually called Basic, all Pescador spearguns have a 100% stainless steel release mechanism. Trying it out of the water, simply inserting and releasing the shaft without loading the rubber bands, the mechanism perfectly blocks the shaft never failing. The release mechanism box continues all the wait to the rear becoming the support to the chest loading butt pad. The latter is very wide and comfortable, with a V shaped upper profile to have a completely clear line of aim.
Barrel

The barrel is a classic extruded aluminium solution, definitely made nice with all the colour options matched with the muzzle, handle, reel, monofilament and elastic bands. Key is the presence of the integrated shaft guide to improve precision of the shot and stiffness of the barrel.
Muzzle

As anticipated, you will not find a perfectly polished glass loaded nylon muzzle, but its design, especially considering the open solution, is great. It accompanies the circular elastic bands perfectly to improve the parallelism with the shaft, with positive effect on power and precision.
Handle

Slightly anathomical and symmetrical, so good for left and right handers, the handle used on the main spearguns, Pacific, Atlantic and Hammer, is well designed. One plate per side in rugged rubber optimes the grip.
Reels

The plastic reels are nice due to the fact that they are available in many different colours, black, blue, red, green and yellow. The finishes of the plastic reel are not perfect, but the functioning is good, and the material permits to have an extremely light reel both out and in the water.
Shafts

Pescador designs and produces its own quality shafts, which permits the company to offer them at a very good value for money price. All shafts have shark fins obtained by high level laser welding, the front one includes a hole for the passage of the line. Pescador shafts are made in high quality, burnished 44-47 HRC hardness steel. They are 6.5 or 7.0 mm diameter depending on the model and length of the Pescador Sub speargun.
Primeline elastic bands

One of the highest quality elastic bands brand internationally is definitely Primeline. They cost a little more, but the work better. So Pescador Sub has decided to put as standard all Primeline Reactive elastic bands on its spearguns. This is another key element for best performance.
Overview of a wide and complete range
Pescador Sub spearguns range is extremely complete; let’s check it quickly.
Sub Basic

The starting point is the Sub Basic, available in the lengths 60, 75 and 90 cm at only 52€ on Pescador Sub website. Basic, but well designed, the muzzle is closed with the opportunity to add a circular band. The shaft is with notches and articulated steel wishbone. The release mechanism is in polymer with a simple inferior line release.
Atlantic Nero

Higher up we have the Atlantic Nero, with an impressive 10 lengths: 60, 75, 82, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140 and 150 cm). The open muzzle solution is set with a singular circular band with Dyneema wishbone, 6.5 mm HRC Pescador steel shaft with shark fins and single barb. The closed muzzle has a double elastic solution. The barrel is a 28 mm extruded aluminium circular section with integrated shat guide. The release mechanism is a 100% stainless steel solution, including the trigger and the lateral line release lever. The reel is not included.
Pacific Red, Purple and Blu

Moving up, we have the Pacific in color version Red, Purple and Blu, but also gold and green colours are available. The lengths are 9: 75, 82, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140 and 150 cm. So only the 60 cm is missing compared to the Atlantic Nero, which makes sense considering the Pacific has a double circular bands dyneema wishbone open muzzle setup. The barrel is again an extruded aluminium 28 mm circular section tube with integrated shaft guide. Clever to have a 1 mm thick wall for the lengths up to 100 cm, and 1,4 mm for greater lengths, where power applied by the elastic bands is greater, and the longer barrel would tend more easily to bend.
The release mechanism is a high level 100% stainless steel solution, including trigger and lateral line release lever. The shaft is a Pescador Sub HRC inox 6.5 mm for lengths 60, 75, 82 and 90 cm, and 7.0 mm for greater lengths. All shafts have shark fins with high level laser welding, and single barb. A plastic 30 or 50 meters reel is included.
Ghost

With the same basic design of the Pacific, 100% stainless steel release mechanism, 28 mm circular aluminium tube with integrated shaft guide, open muzzle with double circular bands, the Ghost has an upgrade in the reel. The latter is a 30 meters line capacity aluminium solution. The Ghost is a very intriguing matt silver colour barrel and white handle. Some camouflage enthusiasts might not be too fond of it, but blue water spearos might appreciate such colour. Lengths available are 75, 82, 90, 100, 110, 120 and 130cm. Also, diversily from the Pacific, the Ghost has a 7 mm diameter shaft for all lengths.
Hammer

The name says it somehow, the Hammer moves up with power and performance, starting from a 32 mm diameter barrel, with 1.4 mm thick wall. This has a wider integrated shaft guide compared to the Pacific and Atlantic spearguns, so it can host well a greater diameter shaft. The double rubbers are 16 mm Primeline Reactive, but cut shorter than the Pacific for greater load, and so power, which is better supported by the 32 mm diameter barrel. The shaft is a 7 or 8 mm diameter HRC Pescador Sub model with laser welded shark fins.
Soon we will present in more detail every speargun by Pescador Sub, stay tuned!
