The blade
The Mares Ascent Knife is expertly crafted from 420 D polished Martensitic stainless steel, a material known for its exceptional strength, corrosion resistance, and durability. These qualities make it ideal for the demanding conditions of saltwater environments, providing longevity and consistent performance dive after dive.
The extremely sharp blade ensures quick and precise cutting. The length of the blade is 95 mm, while the base is 22 mm wide and the 4 mm thick. The blade is plain edge on one side and serrated on the other (great for cutting lines or scaling the fish. Still, the tip of the blade is cutting plain on one side and non cutting on the other. This solution follows the law, so such knife is not considered a weapon.
Handle of the Mares Ascent
The handle of the Mares Ascent is anatomical with lateral glass loaded nylon elements. It is also of good dimensions to grab the knife properly and comfortably, making it easy to apply strength to the blade. This is key, as some simpler knives are neat, but have flat handles made only in metal, which are much less comfortable. The nylon parts can be dismounted unscrewing torx screws to clean at best the blade.
At the rear of the handle, a metal element, one piece with the metal structure of the blade, can be user to connect a line which avoids losing the Mares Ascent. Such metal element can also be used to break something. Finally, even if slightly small, it works as beer bottle opener! Very important!
Sheath and connection to the knife
The Mares Ascent Knife is not just about sharpness and strength—its innovative sheath design takes usability to the next level. The sheath features a mechanical system that allows for quick, one-handed removal, ensuring the knife is easily accessible when you need it most. Moreover, the system, thanks to the click lock ensures the dives feels when the system is properly blocked, and so does not lose the Ascent accidentally. Moreover, the brightly coloured push buttons of a yellow neon colour ensure easy identification in case the knife is dropped, adding an extra layer of security for divers.
The Mares Ascent knife is sold without belts for the positioning on the calf, as this is today a less used solution. The sheath is instead complete of the passage for the weight belt. This knife can also be positioned on the arm, even though it is not extremely compact for such use. Dimensions of the Mares Ascent are 22 cm long and 5 cm wide when stored in the sheath, and 21 cm long and 4.5 cm wide (the base of the handle) considering only the knife.
Shafts straightening and unlocking system
Additional features include a special tool for freeing stuck shafts, giving spearos added functionality in a compact, user-friendly design. Moreover, the system also permits to straighten a shaft while spearfishing, and this can be a great fishing day safety system.
