Joints Spearfishing is an amazing company, founded and led by a very eclectic, energetic and smart Italian, Francesco Cannoni, and based in Tahiti, French Polynesia. In such a way, the company brings together the Mediterranean and Polynesian spearfishing philosophies in a successful mix. Joints Spearfishing offers multiple products, from fins, to wetsuits to knives, but the core sector are the amazing wooden spearguns. Recently Joints has launched the VAU 95 speargun, versatile, compact and powerful, built for manoeuvrability and precision, and compact enough to travel. Let’s see more in detail its characteristics.
Vau 95 speargun: the name

The name Vau recalls the Dogtooth Tuna, one of the most coveted and respected trophies in tropical spearfishing. An extremely powerful fish, capable of testing even the most experienced spearfishers. From this inspiration comes the Joints VAU series, spearguns designed to offer the same combination of agility, speed and raw power that defines this predator.
The aim of the project
The VAU 95 was born from a project developed in close collaboration with our ambassador Francesco Di Nunzio, starting from a very clear need: to create a speargun optimized for Mediterranean conditions, where handling, rapid tracking, absolute precision and significant real range are essential elements.
The result is a compact and responsive weapon, yet capable of maintaining surprising consistency even at long distances.
The VAU 95 is a “Vela” system engineered in every detail, with the goal of achieving linear power, surgical precision and total recoil control.
The Burmese teak and unidirectional (UD) carbon laminated structure guarantees rigidity, stability and vibration absorption, while maintaining neutral buoyancy and high pointing accuracy.

Project and construction
Handle

The ergonomic handle is available in right-hand, left-hand or central versions, to suit the style and biomechanics of every spearfisher.
Rubbers and mechanics

The setup is already optimized as standard:
- – Primeline small ID 19 mm and 16 mm rubbers, calibrated for a reactive and progressive power curve
- – Dedicated Joints shaft 120 × 7.5 mm in 17/4PH, designed to maximize penetration and ballistic stability
- – Joints titanium reel, lightweight, rigid and completely corrosion-proof, supplied with 50 m of Dyneema
- – Carbon sliders and custom titanium pulleys, eliminating any oxidation issues

- – Spliced loading cords, for smoothness and durability
- – ERMES SUB Double Roll trigger mechanism, chosen for sensitivity, safety and the ability to handle high loads

Performance
The synergy between the barrel geometry, Vela system configuration, dedicated rubbers and optimized shaft allows for a real range exceeding 5 meters, with almost imperceptible recoil and extremely high shot repeatability. Tracking remains surprisingly smooth, a fundamental feature for Mediterranean spearfishing, where seconds — often tenths — make the difference.
Production, customization and cultural identity
Each VAU 95 is individually crafted to order, with the possibility to customize configurations, accessories and construction details according to the spearfisher’s needs.
For those who wish to carry an even deeper connection to their origins, we also offer the option to integrate traditional Polynesian carvings, handcrafted directly in our workshop. These engravings are not simple decorations: they represent ancestral symbols of protection, strength and connection to the sea. A way to add a touch of mana — Polynesian spiritual energy — to a speargun designed for our beloved Mediterranean.
