Among the very rich line of spearguns by Sea Hunter, among which the Best Choice 2025 winner, the Fury double circular bands, is the small one, the Piranha 60. We have analyzed it, appreciating high level solutions for an extremely comoact speargun perfect to spearfish in the dens.
Barrel
Let’s start with the barrel of the Sea Hunter Piranha, as its length, unique in the 60cm version, characterizes this speargun. The material is aluminium Anticorodal and diameter is 28 mm with 1 mm thick wall. A high end solution is the integrated open track shaft guide all along the length of the barrel.
Handle
Another high level solution is the handle of the Sea Hunter Piranha. It has a grip with anti slip soft rubber, with both anatomical right hander and symmetrical left and right hander solution. Colours can be white, red and acid green. We suggest the white as much more visible underwater when the speargun is left on the sea bed.
The speargun butt, one piece with the handle, has also a soft rubber cover as anti slip solution, and this can be white, red or acid green.
Release mechanism
The release mechanism is 100% stainless steel, including the trigger and the line release lever. The latter is the vertical pin solution, which works perfectly well, but some spearos maybe be used and prefer the lateral lever.
Muzzle
The muzzle is open is extremely compact. It can hold up to two circular elastic bands. The passage for the bands is single and this can determine a small downside with the single band rotating to the side of the wishbone after the shot, and the need to reposition it. The passage of the monofilament is great with two metal plates generating a channel per side which perfectly keeps the line in place.
Reel
The Sea Hunter ARI reel is horizontal and beautiful in its amazing compactness, which perfectly matches the Piranha, contributing to its great manoeuvrability. The ARI reel holds from 15 to 25 meters of line depending on the diameter. The clutch adjustment knob is circular with dented edges, but we would have preferred a profile with more evident protrusions for a better grabbing and turning.
Base setting
The Sea Hunter Piranha is offered with the following base setup. Shark fins threaded tip 6.5 mm shaft. Single circular elastic band of 16.5mm diameter, in the extremely progressive Sea Hunter Tsunami Black rubber. Dyneema 2.5 mm diameter line. 3 meters of 1.2 mm diameter monofilament. The wishbone is in Dyneema.
