The naked version – Strike Base
The Mares Strike family offers three different versions for various needs, the Element, the Polygon and the Base. But the Strike Base is the one that permits to buy handle, barrel and muzzle, and set your speargun with the bands and shaft that you prefer. Let’s see what the athletes of the Mares Pure Passion Team have indicated as they preferred setup for this naked version of the Strike.
Rosario (Saro) Lopis

One of the strongest in the world for catching seabreams, Rosario, Saro, has a short Mares Strike Base for the dens, a 55 cm. He has set his speargun with a single reactive 16 mm circular band a a 6.5 mm diameter single barb shaft.
Diego Mazzocchi

Another great spearo of the Mares Pure Passion Team, Diego, uses the most universal length of 90 cm. He has set his Mares Strike Base with single progressive circular band of 16 mm cut at 55 cm of length. 6.5 mm diameter shaft with shark fins and 2 mm Dyneema mounted on the Strike reel.
Luca Santi

Luca Santi of the Mares Pure Passion team has three different Mares Strike spearguns, the 55, 75 and the 90 cm. He has set the 75 and 90 both with a single 18 mm circular rubber. It is the Mares S-Power, made of two materials: Subtle brown UV protection on the outside and natural amber latex on the inside. Progressive elastic and constant power in the long term. It is cut to 48 cm for the Strike 75 and to 60 cm for the 90. The shaft is a 6.5 mm diameter single barb and shark fins. For the Strike 55 Luca uses still the 18 mm diameter S-Power, cut to 42 cm, and a threaded shaft with 4 points prong.
Nicola Soldati

Nicola Soldati has the full set of Mares Strike: 55, 75, 90 and 100. He loves to use them all, except for the 55, with double circular 14 mm rubber and 6.5 mm shaft, with single barb and shark fins. The 55 instead has a 18mm diameter circular band for great power, 7 mm threaded shaft with prongs. Rubbers are always the Mares S-Power Brown progressive ones (available in 14, 16.5 and 18 mm diameter).
Nicola has also a specific setting to be used in competitions. They are set with a 6.5 mm shaft and a single 16 s-power brown band. “The shot is not comparable to a double band, but at 3 meters from the tip of the speargun you can still hit the head of a pin”, comments Nicola.
Samuele Locci

Samuele (Samu) Locci, from Sardinia, has a Mares Strike 75. He has set it up with single circular band of 17.5 mm diameter with progressive rubber. They are cut short for an extension of 320%. The shaft is a 6.5 with single barb and shark fins. Samu uses quite short shafts as often done in modern times. The reel is the Strike with 2 mm line and terminal a 180 nylon line.
Samu has also a Strike 90 set with double circular 14.5 mm progressive bands, 6.5 mm shaft with single barb, and a Strike 100 with double 16 mm circular bands, 7 m shaft with single barb and tricuspid tip.
Vincenzo De Giorgi

Vincenzo De Giorgi also loves the Mares Strike, in particular the 75, for which he has his own preferred settings. He uses a single circular 17 mm Mares S-Power Indigo, and a 6.5 mm threaded shaft with 4 prongs. It is perfect for spearfishing in the dens seabreams and croakers.
