The Semana Màster Ciutat de Palma de Pesca Submarina brings together in Palma 200 athletes from seven countries. The competitions will take place at the base port of Club Nàutic Portitxol on January 27 and 28. The Federation pays tribute to Andreu Sureda, three-time World Champion as Captain and selector of the national Spanish team.

The Plenary Hall of the Palma City Council hosted today the presentation of the Semana Màster Ciutat de Palma de Pesca Submarina 2023, which will take place on the 27th and 28th of January at the base port of Club Nàutic Portitxol. The coompetitions will bring together 200 athletes and technicians from Spain, the United States, Italy, France, Croatia, Greece and Algeria. A competition that has been consolidated as the most important international spearfishing event after the World Championship.
The event was attended by the Manager of the IME, Rafael Navarro; the President of the World Confederation of Underwater Activities, Anna Arzhanova; the Vice-President of the Spanish Federation of Underwater Activities, Guillermo Félix, and the President of the Balearic Federation of Underwater Activities, Joan Mas.


Navarro highlighted the solidarity side of the Semana Master de Pesca Submarina in the City of Palma, for the benefit of SOS Mamás and thanked the organization for its work due to the high level of sport that the events register: “It is one of the most emblematic competitions in Palma, which brings together at the Portitxol the international elite of spearfishing”, he emphasized.
The competition will start on Friday with the XX Master Ciutat de Palma and the third edition CMAS Women’s Cup Ciutat de Palma, which joined the Trophy for the first time in 2019.
The program of the second day includes the 21st edition of the Open International Ciutat de Palma “X Memorial Sebastià Carbonell”, the VI CMAS World Cup of National Teams and the V Brands World Cup.

Tribute to Andreu Sureda Milán

At the end of the event, Rafael Navarro presented a plaque of recognition to Andreu Sureda Milán, three-time World Champion as captain and selector of the national Spanish team in 2012, 2014 and 2018. A tribute from the Consistory for the achievements at the Head of the national team and for an exemplary career as Director of the World Underwater Fisheries Committee and Federative manager.
Navarro, Mas, Arzhanova and Félix agreed to highlight Sureda’s contribution to the world of underwater sports “twenty years ago I met Andreu and it is an honor to be able to participate in this tribute. From the CMAS I want to thank him for all the work he has done, he is a great worker and the best person”, emphasized the President of the CMAS Anna Arzhanova.
The presentation was also attended by the General Director of Sports, María Luisa Garnelo, and representatives of the Balearic and National Spearfishing Committee. Municipal groups have participated; Mercedes Celeste, from the Popular Party, Alejandro Escriche, from Ciutadans and Sandra Barceló, from VOX.
