Introduction

Two very special 2021 knives from Mares, that we have managed to receive as World Première for our readers. Extremely compact and light, also particularly affordable Mares says, the Mares Hero Polygon and Hero Polygon S (Short) are definitely modern in the design.

The handle

Both the Mares Hero Polygon and Hero Polygon S are totally made of AISI 304 Stainless steel, from the blade to the handle. The latter is very minimalistic, with a polygon profile and an empty internal part. This definitely makes the handle light and compact, but can also determine loss of grip. The empty internal part of the handle has a very positive function of giving the spearo the possibility to hold the knife for example with the little finger having so both hands free to end the fish or for any other operation where both hands are needed. Handle dimensions are 100 x 42 x 4 mm for the Mares Hero Polygon and 54 x 42 x 4 for the Mares Hero Polygon S.

Blade

Made in AISI 304 stainless steel the blades of both the Mares Hero Polygon and the Mares Hero Polygon S have a standard cutting edge on one side and a constantly toothed edge on the other. Dimensions of the blades of the two knives are exactly the same, as the two models differ only for the handle design and dimensions. So measures of the blade are 70 x 22 x 2 mm.  The useable length of the blade (the cutting edge) is equal to its maximum measure, 70 mm.

Sheath

The sheaths of the Mares Hero Polygon and Hero Polygon S are made of Cordura^®, which makes them very light and well adaptable to arm and calf. Evidently, this material will take longer to dry compared to plastic and Nylon. Internally a plastic insert gives rigidity to the structure.

The sheath of the Mares Hero Polygon has included on its backside the band for the passage of the weights belt, while the sheath of the Mares Hero Polygon S includes two elastic straps with Velcro that perfectly adapt to the arm or calf.

The locking system of the knife to the sheath is made of an inelastic soft Velcro band on both the Mares Hero Polygon and the Hero Polygon S.
