The South African spearfishing championships is currently taking place in Kwazulu Natal. Some of the top athletes are battling it out for the 2019 title. With the conditions being very poor, some nice fish were landed. Reports of some places only having two to three meters of visibility in what can often be sharky waters, especially during this time of the year, where the annual sardine run takes place. Some spearos diving up to – 40 m to bag some class fish in very trying conditions. After day one three of the top four spots consist of Springbok spearfishermen who have represented their country internationally. As it stands nine times South African champion Jaco Blignaut lies in first position closely followed by Angelo Spada, Gerhard Vosloo and Guy Le Meme, which will make for a fantasic second day of spearfishing!
