Once again the Semana Master, the traditional spearfishing competition organized by FBDAS, Federacion Balear de Actividades subacuaticas, will take place in the end of January in Palma de Mallorca.

This year Semana Master is dedicated to Juan Ramon Reus, for 10 years a member of national team of Spain, most of the time as a pair of Jose Pep Amengual with whom he won national in pairs. In year 1986 he ended fourth in the World Championship, after he was 8th in the Euro-African championship. After he retired from competitions he was member of CMAS Spearfishing Comitee.

Opening ceremony and team presentation is scheduled for 23rd of January at la Carpa del Club Nautico Portixol.

Day after, 24th of January, is reserved for individual competitions – traditional XIX Master Cituat de Palma and, for the second time, the CMAS Womens Cup Ciutat de Palma.

In the  Master the right to compete is given to the top 10 classified athletes in the last World Championship in Sagres, to the World Champions, as well as to the Master winners and to one representative of each brand-company.

This year Daniel Gospic (Croatia) and Oscar Cervantes (Spain)will not compete in the Master.

“I didn’t have any time to prepare this year competition as I arrived here two days before the start, but conditions were so bad I could not visit even spots that I knew from previous years”, said ex World Champion from Croatia, Daniel Gospic.

The ladies competition will have six women from Spain participating.

Saturday 25th January, Palma bay will be occupied by spearos in three different competitions: the 5th CMAS World Cup for nations, 4th Brands Cup and XX Open Internacional – IX Memorial Sebastián Carbonell.
Each team consists of three athletes and each competition will have their own zone.
Some of spearos stars, as Alberto March, Xavi Blanco, Giacomo de Mola, will again come together in Palma de Mallorca to decide who is new “maestro” and which team is the best in the tricky conditions of Palma bay.

Weather conditions

Conditions for days of preparation were very bad this year, a lot of rain, a lot of wind and in the end very bad visibility so spearos didn’t have much quality time for good preparation.
