Simple and light, for best brandishing, the Seac Guun 30 is available in lengths from 95 to 135, always with double circular 16 mm bands.
In brief
It is the 30 mm diameter barrel version, upgrade compared to the 28 mm, the Guun 30 increases rigidity (it goes with the square of the diameter of the barrel). The Guun 30 keeps all the aspects of the 28 mm barrel cousin speargun, with simplicity and lightness as strengths, opposed to heavier spearguns, for example wooden, that are more difficult to handle, but of course better deal with recoil control.
The barrel
Made with extrusion process and of 30 mm cylindrical diameter, and wall thickness of 1 mm, the material of the barrel is anticorodal aluminum 6060 series. On the upper side the open shaft guide is made with two rails to give more precision to the shot and avoid too much friction between the shaft and the guide. Also, the guide gives more vertical rigidity to the barrel, just as the additional profile on the lower part of the barrel.
The float
Inferior edge profile on the barrel also gives more vertical rigidity, but also works as a guide for the sliding floater that permits fast and accurate balancing of the speargun, depending on salinity of water, but most of all on diameter and length of the shaft.
Standard setup
The Guun 105 30 has double circular 16 mm diameter elastic bands of the Power Greenmodel, with 3.4 elongation coefficient, shaft of 7 mm diameter and 150 cm length. In 2018 the Power Green will be substituted by the new Power Red, that we will soon analyze.
Shaft
Shaft is in 17-4 PH steel shaft, a material which is very well machinable and workable, as pointed out by SEAC, compared to the more famous Sandvik, more expensive and difficult to work with. The17-4 PH is treated through processes of ageing and solubilization, which make the material hard (resistant) and elastic at the same time. After such treatment shafts will appear of a dark colour. Some customers do not like this, while others recognize the effect of eliminating light reflects. The micro-welding of the fins of the shaft without machining the shaft internally is a very interesting solution to avoid weakening of the material.
Release mechanism
The release mechanism is completely in laser cut stainless steel, manufatured with tumble process, passivation and polishing treatment, the latter to improve look, but also to reduce any possible oxidizing process. Criticized by some for its hardness, the release mechanism has been optimized by Seac on the new 2018 version, with new angles of the elements of the system, for a more sensisitive and soft solution.
Among the different solutions, interesting is the connection between the grip and the barrel. To maintain good watertight sealing two O-rings are used, and these are mounted on a tilting support which does not bend in case of heavy loads generated by the elastic bands. Such solution avoids the squeezing of the O-rings and a longer lasting watertight sealing.
Grip
Great attension has been dedicated to the grip, concentrating on dimensions and tilt. This has permitted to obtain the ideal solution of having the speargun as a natural continuation of the arm and hand. The grip has a mechanical mounting system that permits to change the back of the handle (coloured part), where the palm of the hand is positioned. It is so possible to change the colour of such component (white, yellow, green and red), and also, available in the next months, it will be possible to mount a component with increased dimensions for spearos with bigger hands.
Muzzle
Extremely compact, always following the philosofy of lightness and compactness for best brandishing, the muzzle offers an intelligent solution for blocking the line after having passed it over the shaft to keep the latter still when loading and before the shot. Solution consists in two guides, one per side of the muzzle, where the line passes in the guide and is blocked by the central insert of the muzzle which is in hard but deforming rubber. Such solution blocks well the shaft and the line, helping loading phase and reducing to minimum loss of power of the shot.
Reel and sternal support
Made of completely machined techno-polymer, the new reel has a winding knob that can be bent with the aim of reducing possibility of the knob getting stuck to objects on the sea floor, lines or other. The interesting solution is the regulation system of the clutch. The latter shifts from fully tight to completely open with just half of a turn of the central knob. A solution that we like, as it gives better awareness on how tight or open the clutch is. In the traditional solutions for reel clutch regulation, it can be difficult to tighten the clutch, and sometimes one can exaggerate in turning the knob and possible breakage of the central axle of th reel can occur (when made of techno-polymer and not aluminum).
Sternal support is in glass loaded Nylon with a special deforming design when under pressure. Two different size sternal support are available with the Guun.
