Newly launched this year, the Beuchat Marlin Lite speargun is a simple, but extremely reliable and easy to use speargun. The durability of the release mechanism and the softness of the trigger make this new product by Beuchat a great solution for beginners and intermediate. Still, it can be the perfect speargun on attached to the buoy as backup for expert spearos.

Marlin Lite release mechanism

Reliability and robustness

This is the extremely reliable MARLIN release mechanism. It has its strength in its robustness, which has been tested for years, and is recognized as one of the long lasting systems on the market. The MARLIN release mechanism has been successfully tested for loads up to 300 Kgs.

Smooth trigger even with heavy load

Another key plus is the fact that the force required to release the shaft during the shot is extremely low. With 45 kg of load generated by one rubber band, for example, the force required to press the trigger and release the shaft is 1.2 kg. At 200kg it is still only 4 kg! Such aspect determines a great smoothness and sensitivity on the trigger which definitely helps the precision of the shot.

Shaft insertion

Another important aspect of the design of the MARLIN release mechanism is the well built shaft insertion entrance. In fact, the upper part of the release mechanism box has an upcurved profile which helps insert the shaft. At the same time the steel box does not have sharp edges, so the line does not wear out or cut.

Safety system

The safety system is an old school one, with the on-off lever positioned on the top of the release mechanism. It cannot be felt with the hand when it is on (shaft blocked) and advise the spearo, but it is well visible by the diver.

Not inverted

The MARLIN release mechanism is not an inverted solution. This aspect does not completely optimize the efficiency of the shot, losing a few centimeters of length, but it is a minor aspect. What is more important is the fact that for the price of the Beuchat Marlin Lite and for the objectives of such speargun, which are mainly durability and precision, the MARLIN release mechanism is a great solution.

Handle of the Marlin Lite

The handle is equipped with a glass loaded Nylon element frontally to the release mechanism. Such plastic component has a channel designed centrally to help position the shaft during the loading phase.

The material od the handle is Polyamide 6. The grip is in soft touch material to generate an anti-slip effect. On such handle all Beuchat reels can be mounted, as the 30, 50 and 100m versions.

Barrell of the Marlin Lite

The Lite version of the Beuchat Marlin is of course a more affordable solution than, for example, the Marlin Evil. In fact, the barrel is a traditional 28 mm diameter section, with no integrated shaft guide. This leads to a very simple and light solution, but of course the rigidity of the barrel with integrated shaft guide is higher. Moreover, the shaft guide helps precision, but also positioning the shaft during loading. Still, the Beuchat Marlin Lite has a plastic element mounted on the barrell which helps to keep the shaft in the correct position.

The muzzle of the Beuchat Marlin Lite is standard closed solution which mounts a couple of straight rubber bands with bushings. It can be equipped with all diameters, such as 14 mm, 16 mm, 18 mm and on.

Elastic bands, wishbone and shafts

The standard solution hosts 16 mm diameter rubber bands for 40 Kgs (88lbs) of load. The wishbone is a high level articulated solution in stainless steel. The shaft is 6.5mm diameter version with notches and made with 17-4ph stainless steel.

The barb of the shaft is short for best spearfishing actions among the rocks and the barrows. In fact, a shorter barb reduces the risk of the shaft getting stuck.
